Cannon Financial Institute 2026 Estate Planning Teleconference Series (20 Oct 2026)

October 20, 2026: Best Designs for the Exercise of Discretion by a Trustee

Sponsored by: Dime Bank Trust Services

teleconference 1:00-2:30 pm

Free for members, $35 for guests. Please note that the remainder of 2026 Cannon Teleconferences will be available virtually only (NO in-person option). A link will be sent by ETPCEC prior to the program.

About the Program:

The heart of trust administration is the Trustee’s thoughtful exercise of discretion. Clients and their estate planners rely heavily on the core concept that Trustees will follow carefully applicable trust law and parameters established in the governing instrument in making subjective decisions that will promote the best interests of the beneficiaries.

Cannon Financial Institute 2026 Estate Planning Teleconference Series (17 Nov 2026)

November 17, 2026: Qualified Retirement Plans and IRAs – Planning Under SECURE 2.0 Act of 2022 & 2024 Final Regulations

Sponsored by: Landsdowne Wealth Management LLC

teleconference 1:00-2:30 pm

Free for members, $35 for guests. Please note that the remainder of 2026 Cannon Teleconferences will be available virtually only (NO in-person option). A link will be sent by ETPCEC prior to the program.

About the Program:

Many of our clients have sizable accumulations in qualified retirement plans and IRAs. This is a unique type of asset that presents potential opportunities and difficulties in the estate planning context. The ultimate beneficial objective is to maintain as much of the plan or IRA intact for as long as possible – in order to maximize income tax-deferred investment return – while preserving as much dispositive flexibility as possible. This quest is often elusive.

December 2026 Quarterly Lunch & Learn (02 Dec 2026)

Wednesday, December 2, 2026

12-2:00 pm | Langley's at Great Neck County Club, Waterford

Plated Lunch Included | Members: Free | Non-Member Fee: $55

Kick off the holiday season hearing about community need, while also logging continuing education. This program will feature two parts:

Local Charity Spotlight

Always Home (Tricia Cunningham, Executive Director)

Waterford Country School (Suzi Lee Schell, Development Coordinator)

Life Insurance as a Planning Asset: Unlocking Value Through Policy Reviews and the Secondary Market

Life insurance can be a significant asset within an estate, trust, or business plan, but policies often receive far less ongoing review than traditional investments. Over time, a client’s needs, estate plan, business interests, or financial circumstances may change, and coverage that once made sense may no longer fit the plan.

This program will take a practical look at reviewing existing life insurance and identifying situations where a closer look may be warranted. It will also provide an overview of the life settlement market and the options available when a client no longer needs, wants, or can comfortably maintain their existing coverage.

Topics will include:

Legal and fiduciary considerations when reviewing life insurance and potential life settlement opportunities

Tax considerations and developments affecting the life settlement market

How the secondary market works and the factors that influence policy value

Business-owned life insurance and succession-planning considerations

The role of regular policy reviews in identifying planning opportunities and supporting fiduciary best practices

The program is intended for attorneys, trust officers, financial advisors, CPAs, insurance professionals, and others involved in estate planning. Practical examples will be used to highlight situations advisors may encounter and the questions worth asking when reviewing a policy.

A life settlement will not be the right fit in every situation. The goal of the program is to help advisors better understand the secondary market, recognize when it may be worth exploring, and make sure clients are aware of their options before a policy is surrendered or allowed to lapse.

About the Presenter:

Scott Etish is Vice President, Advanced Markets at Coventry, where he works with attorneys and fiduciaries who advise high-net-worth clients on complex estate and financial planning matters. Mr. Etish specializes in helping legal and financial professionals unlock the hidden value of their clients’ unneeded life insurance policies, providing alternatives to a policy surrender or lapse that can generate liquidity, reduce premium burdens, and enhance wealth transfer strategies.

Mr. Etish is a frequent speaker at estate planning councils and bar associations, where he teaches attorneys and fiduciaries that life insurance is a valuable asset that can be sold, and how Advisors can integrate life settlements into their practice to better serve high-net-worth individuals and families. His presentations offer practical guidance on identifying life settlement opportunities and how Advisors can help their clients maximize the value of their life insurance assets.

Before joining Coventry, Mr. Etish was a Partner at Gibbons P.C., where he spent nearly 17 years advising clients on complex business disputes. He began his legal career as a law clerk for an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Mr. Etish holds a Juris Doctor from Rutgers University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University’s Science in Society Program.

About the Program:

Concurrent representation of multiple parties may give rise to a host of ethics-related issues. Chief among them are potential conflicting interests and the need to respect barriers between or among clients regarding information they rightfully consider personal and confidential. When these issues are or become insurmountable, declining or removing oneself from a problematic engagement may be the only viable path.
